CARTHAGE (Fayetteville Observer (April 26, 2017) — Two men have been convicted of voter fraud in Moore County.
Dalton Shane Smith, of Cameron, was convicted April 3 and Edward Green, of Southern Pines, was convicted April 25, a Moore County District Attorney’s Office news release said.
The Moore County Board of Elections asked the DA’s office to investigate the allegations. An investigation revealed that the men voted in the 2016 presidential election even though they were ineligible, the release said.
The release did not specify why they were ineligible. Information on their punishments for the convictions was not immediately available.
“This office is committed to uncovering and prosecuting voter fraud because free and fair elections are cornerstones of democracy,” District Attorney Maureen Krueger said.
