Gov. Bruce Rauner vetoed a similar bill because it did not go far enough to prevent voter fraud.
The move is backed by a litany of groups, including the ACLU of Rhode Island and the NAACP.
A similar measure passed onto the governor’s desk last year but was vetoed.
Democrats are trying to cram the voting rolls with people who can’t be bothered to register.
